As in any relationship that you care about, a customer success professional takes the time, effort and the initiative to understand the customer's goals, motives and values. What are the customer goals? What needs to happen for the customer to consider their purchase and implementation a success?

Once the customer goals are clear, a Customer Success professional, like a true friend, empowers the customer.

Remember that the "customer" is a person or a team of people. Humans. People with bosses, who are beholden to their own goals and KPIs and who want to be successful.

Sometimes the Customer Success pro gives helpful advise.
Sometimes they make sure that everyone on the vendor side does their part.
Sometime they enable and empower the customer.
Sometimes they celebrate a customer's milestone with them.
Sometime, they just cheer lead!
